Tipping Points

In some respects the popular media will at times overemphasize the importance of tipping points. The very phrase itself will often bring to mind runaway effects. However, there are rarely any runaway effects. But there are oftentimes points at which what was negative feedback becomes positive feedback, then points at which it becomes difficult and eventually humanly impossible to reverse a given process for the foreseeable future. Additionally, many of the so-called tipping-points will tend to result in instances of positive feeback which feed into other processes such that climate change begins to take on a life of its own.
